America's Best trade College Towns for Boomers

America's Best trade College Towns for Boomers

Growing up in the Bay Area of northern California, there were two-lane roads, very limited traffic on the Bayshore Freeway (Hwy 101), and fruit orchards galore. The Pepsi Generation was just getting started building Apple computers, and "hard drive" still meant a long day out on the road. Now, I'm 50 years old, my home turf is called Silicon Valley, and instead of cola kid, they call me a baby boomer. And as I get older, I won't retire in the former sense like my parents. Best Workflow For Avchd Video Footage - turn With Nero vision - Editing With Sony Vegas

Best Workflow For Avchd Video Footage - turn With Nero vision - Editing With Sony Vegas

I'm the "Web guy" at a small business, so, basically, anyone conveyable via the Internet becomes an entry on my to-do list. Earlier this year, the owner came to me, requesting testimonials for the website--video testimonials. And not just regular, old thorough videos, but high-definition ones; and he wanted them "eh-sap." So off I marched to Best Buy with the boss's enterprise card to pick up one of those newfangled, high-def shooting camcorders, the type that'll show sweat dripping over pimples on people's faces in lively detail. "So this top-of-the-line Sony shoots in Hd? And it picks up sweat drops and skin imperfections? Okay, I'll take it."

Little did I know that Sony's high-definition format is Avchd, its m2ts files nearly impossible to work with natively, including in Sony's own pro editing software, Vegas. Makes exquisite sense, right? What I figured out over the next join weeks of fervent, headache-inducing quest machine study and personal experimentation was a workflow for editing Avchd, while maintaining the Hd resolution. Let me help you avoid the pain: the following is my workflow in three easy-to-digest steps, including how I converted the footage with Nero 8 software, specifically with its foresight video editing tool.

Step 1: Shooting with Camcorder

I capture video with a Sony Hdr-Xr500V camcorder, the one I purchased from Best Buy on the boss man's black card--listed for 00, but over 00 at the register (thank you very much, 10.25% Chicago sales tax). Resolution is 1920x1080, shooting in 60i. Its 120Gb hard disk drive allows for extended recording sessions and a fully digital workflow, which I wanted after dealing with a Canon Hv20 and the mess of its MiniDv tapes. I exchange the footage through the in case, granted Mini Plug to Usb 2.0 cable, importing it with the also bundled Pmb software.

Step 2: Converting with Nero

With the m2ts files stored on my 1Tb Western Digital external hard drive--the files swiftly ate up all the internal storage on my gimpy, two year-old laptop--I open up Nero 8 for the conversion. In Vision, Nero's editing application, I generate a new movie task and import the files there. I make some very basic, inevitable trims, so as not to unnecessarily lengthen the conversion process, and then click to export. Using the drop-down menus, I select Mpeg-2 as the format and custom as the profile, clicking on the configure button to customize the settings: Ntsc; 16:9 ratio; 1920x1088; 2-Pass Vbr encoding. Lastly, I press export, after having excellent the thorough file portfolio on my external drive.

Step 3: Editing with Sony Vegas

I import the footage, now usable mpg files, into Sony Vegas Pro (version 8.0a, for me). As I learned from my quest machine research, the template needs to be modified to yield high-definition, through the File, Properties menu selection: my default template is now Hd 1080-60i (1920x1080, 29.970 fps). With the template set, I get right to editing my testimonial footage, making sure the client's mild case of adult acne is artfully framed and transitioned to and from. Once finished, I output: Render As from the menu, choosing from the drop-down Windows Media Video V9 (*.wmv)/8 mbps Hd 1080-30p Video. About an hour and a half later (thank you very much, outdated laptop), my three-minute testimonial is ready for prime time on the website.

Well, approximately ready. I upload the closed wmv file to my YouTube account; after it's initially processed, the Hd version takes a dinky longer. Once available, I grab the embed code (after clicking the Play in Hd selection through the customize drop-down) and add it to the website, so visitors can see not a nice-sounding quotation, but a high-definition talking head--warts and all.

Vintage Microphones

Vintage Microphones

Vintage microphones are used for the purpose of intensifying weak sounds, by transforming sound waves into the electrical pulses. The year 1878 marked the starting of carbon microphones. Vintage microphones are developed in varied models and with varied features. Berliner and Edison filed for patents on carbon microphone. In the year 1910, E.Wente developed condenser microphones at Bell labs. By the mid 1920's, developments in condenser microphones made it potential to report films. The omni directional dynamic microphone was developed by Wente and Thuras in the late 1920's. Omni directional dynamic mikes were invented in the late 1930's. From then on, there have been some advancements in microphones. The equipments that were heavy and bulky have become Lightweight and handy now.

Vintage microphones are one of the collections of microphones that were used in the olden days. Vintage microphones may be listed in chronological order based on the models: carbon microphones which came into being in 1878; the 394 condenser microphone introduced by Western Electric; the 4aa condenser mic introduced by Radio Corporation of America (Rca); the 618A introduced by Western Electric; the 630A developed again by Western Electric; the cardiod microphones developed by Siemens; the tubular microphone designed by Bell labs; the 44A, B, and Bx velocity ribbon microphones developed by Harry F. Olson at Rca; the 77A , B, C, D, and Dx unidirectional ribbon series; the 639A and 639B introduced by Western Electric. These systems are the varied vintage microphones.

These vintage microphones are in high query and therefore are very costly. Citizen who could not afford it went in for the microphones bearing varied brand names that surfaced in the American market. They were Rca type 77 models but with dissimilar crystal elements. Prices for these microphones are usually ranged nearby to .

Microphone parts and accessories are also ready for range purposes. Some associates specialize in gravidity of these rare accessories. Like other areas there are spurious business in the field of vintage microphones too. One must be choosy while buying vintage microphones from markets.

Hard Drive repair Using Free Software

Hard Drive repair Using Free Software

Contrary to favorite belief, if a computer does not boot due to hard drive corruption all data is not lost and the hard drive may even be repairable. There are 2 types of hard drive damage. One is fixable by you and the other requires a expert data recovery facility.

Physical Drive Damage - corporeal damage is the worst. Data recovery can only be done by professionals and can cost up to ,500 (sometimes higher). corporeal damage ordinarily consists of bad actuator arms, damaged platters or fried controller cards.

Non-Physical Drive Damage - Non-Physical damage (Npd) is what we're going to be discussing in this article. Npd occurs when the operating system's file theory (fat or ntfs) gets corrupted due to an improper shutdown (for example). While this damage is may seem in fact bad (if it's preventing you from booting your Pc), it's in fact fixable with some software that's already together with in any Windows Pc and a Usb external hard drive enclosure.

Here are a list of items that you'll need to consequent the instructions below:

Another working computer with Windows Xp, Vista or Windows 7
Find out what kind of hard drive you have. There are 2 types. Sata (small flat connector) and Pata (a.k.a Ide) which has a connector with about 30 pins. An external Usb hard drive enclosure with a connector for the type of drive you're going to be connecting to it (you can grab one of these at BestBuy for about Usd).

Please consequent the steps below to achieve a non-physical mend (software repair) on a non-bootable hard drive.

1. Take the drive out of the computer.
2. Join together the hard drive to the connector on the Usb enclosure.
3. Join together a Usb cable from the enclosure to the computer that's working.
4. Power on the Usb enclosure.
5. An external drive will probably load in your list of ready hard drives. You can see this list by opportunity "My Computer" or "Computer". Take note of the drive letter for the external hard drive.
6. Now it's time to load a schedule called Chkdsk (Check Disk).
7. Click Start (if you're on Windows Xp) or click the Windows globe (on the lowest left for Vista and Windows 7).
8. On Windows Xp click Run, then type Cmd. On Windows Vista and 7 type Cmd where it says "Search Programs and Files". This will open a black command prompt window.
9. In the command prompt type chkdsk "the drive letter you want to check": /r and press enter. So here is an example chkdsk g: /r then press the enter key.
10. This process can take hours. I've had a few that took days.
11. If this command completes successfully your drive should be repaired enough for you to recover the data from it and you might in fact be able to boot from it again.

A word of warning. If your drive ever has any errors on it (bad sectors) it's reached the end of it's life and should be substituted Asap. You'll be able to see this in the narrative in case, granted to by the chkdsk command at the end of it's scan.

Credibility of distance learning in the Martial Arts

Credibility of distance learning in the Martial Arts

Something in the martial arts that is argued back and forth all the time is the effectiveness of distance learning versus customary training in a dojo and can one learn the martial arts to any degree of proficiency through distance learning. In an age where communicating and learning via the Internet are staples of every day life and the capability to learn anyone efficiently is open to everybody because of this, my respond is a resounding "Yes!".

Consider this...one of the up-to-date arguments I have encountered is that to earn a Dan ranking takes years and years of blood, sweat and tears and that only after you have spilled blood on the dojo floor can you be considered credible to wear the Dan you are awarded by Xyz Organization, School, Federation, etc. And only through this recipe can you become a good practitioner. While I agree with the idea in general, the discussion against distance learning is that there is no way you can progress rank as a Black Belt, or as a Colored Belt for that matter, unless you train in a school under age old customary methods. There is no way you can maybe learn any ideas of self-defense through "home study" methods.

Ok..well...let's say that a person has put 15-20 years into his/her training and they now wear the rank of 4th or 5th Dan. This person has trained and completed all of the requirements to progress his/her rank. I guess some could say that because of the rank and the years put into the training that he/she is deserving of praise and respect, being of great honor and integrity because of the advancements and the time spent training in the arts. This person obviously has learned what it means to be a good practitioner and is now credible in the eyes of his/her peers. Seems like a solid point.

Now, on the flip side of that coin, let's say that this same person on the outside looks and acts like the rank they wear and talks the talk of a true Black Belt but underneath has a drinking problem or a drug problem or, worse yet, both. They treat citizen with disrespect behind their backs and are full of ego. Every time something goes wrong in his/her life all they want to do is go out, get high and pick a fight. Just so you know, I am not speaking hypothetically. I trained under just such a person. Does this mean he/she deserves to wear the rank of an industrialized Dan just because they have put their time in at a customary school and passed the curriculum? Does this make him/her good than me or anyone else who wants to open up their learning to a credible, uncut distance learning agenda taught by advanced, committed, honorable individuals? I think not as we all know that the martial arts are about so much more than just the belt one wears.

The customary thinking is if you select to train like this that it is lacking in so many respects, ie: training quality, lack of training partners, too easy to slack off and not train, no one is there to insure you are verily performing the material, and on and on, that there is no way this can work and once you receive your rank, it is just a "piece of paper" from a "diploma mill" or in the case of a Dan ranking, a paper "Black Belt Mill". Well, let me pose this question to you, what takes more effort, dedication, perseverance, integrity and personal commitment, walking into a local school and having person tell you what to do or to take a course and break it down yourself, put together a training agenda based colse to your school or work schedule, furnish yourself with a place to train and then effectively faultless the training per belt rank? I realize this question is rhetorical but the point I am trying to make is that Both methods of study, in class and home study, are just as productive in learning any type of material and that as martial artists, to be so ended minded about knowledge via sources "outside the box", especially in this day and age of industrialized technology, is a true detriment to the advancement of the arts as a whole.

The traditionalists fail to identify the doors this can and will, most assuredly, open up to students colse to the world just as it has with all areas of education. Right now...today...you can earn the highest level of certified, recognized, accredited university degrees online from the most reputable Colleges and Universities - World Wide! This is an absolute, indisputable fact that even the most dyed-in-the-wool traditionalist cannot refute. In my mind, it isn't so much how you learn what you learn but how you apply that knowledge after you have learned it. I have all the time said that certifications and degrees are just pieces of paper but what finally makes them so needful is the application of that knowledge and how it is presented to others down the line. We should all the time be sharp send with our knowledge, all the time be willing to embrace new ideas and concepts. If we stop learning, we stop growing.

As the sport is constantly evolving, so too must its practitioners evolve. No longer can we just accept the customary training orthodoxy as the rule. Just the simple fact that hand-to-hand combatives have become so much more industrialized in just the last 10 years would dictate that we as practitioners of the arts should be more open-minded and willing to progress our learning from as many sources outside of our own backyards as possible. distance learning offers just such a clarification by eliminating the geographical boundaries that currently exist in limiting students to train and learn in just one setting, in one style, and from one instructor. With the Internet, video conferencing, online tutorials, forums, blogs, etc. verily at our fingertips, the possibilities are endless. No longer will students have to be relegated to choices for learning that only include the local dojo. fantasize being able to train with and share facts and ideas about advancing the arts with students from all colse to the world in real time!

Of course, to that extent, the traditionalist would argue that there would be a problem with time differences as well as differences in training disciplines and that there is no way this would work. all the time an excuse. I have heard this discussion for years but that is because they fail to see the possible that exists in citizen to come up with long term solutions to these problems, solutions that are offered by just such a group of dedicated individuals in the Akpkf...American Kick-Punch Karate Federation, headed by Sensei Danny Hill. This is an assosication that leads by example and is all about retention the integrity of the arts intact while attaching 21st Century thinking to an age old problem of bringing the training and discipline to students colse to the world who otherwise would not have way to the facts and they do it for Free!

Now, I understand that traditionalists want to keep the training in the dojo's...Ok...but what about the aspiring learner who wants to become complicated in the martial arts but has nowhere to train, or who lives in a remote area where it is 50-100 miles to the nearest dojo? What about the citizen colse to the globe who live in villages where there is no training for thousands of miles around? How then does the traditionalist solve that geographical problem? They solve it by continuing to argue for classroom training as the only beneficial means of learning self-defense. In my opinion, what that discussion verily boils down to is money.

Think about it. They insist that receiving your certification via distance learning is not credible yet they take "Little Johnny's" tuition every month, commonly an exorbitant amount, and pass the learner through the ideas whether he/she has learned the material or not. Again, I am not speaking hypothetically here. I have seen this first hand even at the Black Belt level. This problem exists on a wide scale and is becoming worse every day. The traditionalists say that distance learning has become a bLight on our favorite art form and that it is denigrating all things that is sacred about our favorite sport, even to the point of "bastardizing" what the arts stand for, while all along doing the same thing by Charging outrageous monthly fees and providing training that is mediocre at best. To me, this operation is deplorable and not even remotely deserving of respect and honor, yet this custom continues to grow day by day with new "McDojo's" springing up on just about every street corner. The traditionalist view has become about "selling the product" and not about "teaching the art". anyone that does not "jibe" with their way of thinking is garbage and only their style and only the way it is taught by them, is the "be all to end all" and the only path towards martial arts excellence. In my opinion, there is nothing credible about this custom or this way of thinking and it is only hurting the arts, not improving them.

In closing, let me state that I have had great personal success training in both mediums. Each recipe has its place in study and each, in my opinion, is equally effective. I believe that both methods can co-exist peacefully. I personally have prolonged to progress my knowledge of self-defense through many distinct methods of learning such as books, tapes, cd's, dvd's, online tutorials, and customary training on the mats with practitioners who are also open-minded enough to see the confident impact that distance learning can have on all of us if we would just embrace the need for this type of studying. I have my own dojo and am about to begin my training in Renzoku Jiu-Jitsu, a agenda that is taught by Soke John Cozatt who happens to live on the East Coast (I live on the West Coast) and yes, it is a distance learning program, one that I can progress to 5th Dan in and since that is the highest level of achievement in that system, that is my goal. In lieu of this program, in order for me to train in a "credible" customary jiu-jitsu class setting, I would have to drive 100 miles round trip 3 nights a week at great expense to perform what I can do in my own dojo via distance learning. whether or not I make it to 5th Dan will strictly be up to me but that verily isn't the issue. The point is that the opportunity exists for all of us to utilize modern day technology to continue to Move send with our training and help progress this sport through the 21st Century. We have to continue to be open to new training methods and learning techniques so that the martial arts can continue to grow and survive. I for one will do all I can to be at the forefront of that Movement.

original Japanese business supervision Systems

original Japanese business supervision Systems

The prevailing image of the Japanese administration law in very large companies is very similar, if not the same as the administration law used in small Japanese companies, because business administration systems are, after all, a goods of their particular national culture.

This report will at first Supply a brief summary of the history of Japanese business and administration systems over the procedure of the late 20th century in order to Supply a context in which to base its argument. It is, of course, also leading to understand what the prevailing image of the Japanese administration law is, and how it came to be so dominant or influential with very large Japanese companies.

This report will also peruse how the prevailing image of Japanese administration systems in very large companies are similar to and distinct from the systems of small companies in Japan. There are some key similarities and differences with each general type of administration system, and although there isn't enough space in this essay to introduce all aspects, a general summary and some examples of the similarities and differences in the middle of the administration systems of both very large and small companies of Japan will be provided.

It is leading to first understand how the modern Japanese economy became what it is today. Since the end of World War 2, until about the 1970's, Japan had experienced a profound economic transformation. By the 1980's, Japan had come to be the second largest economy in the world, to the envy and admiration of other nations. This superior duration of economic prosperity while the latter half of the 20th century has come to be known as the Japanese 'Economic Miracle'.

There are a range of arguments made by scholars who have attempted to explicate the fancy behind Japan's economic success in the late 20th century, and these vary considerably. One of these reasons is that Japan's economic success has been solely as a supervene of the culture and traditions of Japan. This discussion is based on the assumption that culture is the main contributing factor of a nation's economy. Morishima has emphasized that in the context of Japan's economic success, the Confucian tradition of Japan has played a key role, arguing that "religious and ethical systems shape human economic behavior and consequently the nature and doing of their economies". Other ideas have been used to understand Japan's rise to success in the late 20th century such as store regulation, for example, Japan's response to store signals, bureaucratic regulation by selecting and fostering strategic industries and political, economic and collective conditions in Japan.

Japan's thriving economy started to decline in 1973 while the oil crisis, when the price of oil quadrupled, acting as a catalyst for economic failure in Japan. Effectively, the high price of oil had negative effects on the Japanese manufacturing industry. Japan responded by focusing its attention from vigor dependent business to a more knowledge-based industry, thus averting the urgency from worsening, and improving the health of its economy. Japan experienced a 'bubble economy' in the years 1987 - 90. This had come about as the supervene of asset prices rising far beyond their actual value, particularly those of land and shares. Land prices fell sharply in 1990 when the Bank of Japan increased the lawful interest rate, thus triggering a heavy sell-off of shares. Since this time Japan has faced challenges such as an aging population and the currency urgency in Asia, but has recovered considerably and today still has a strong economy, rivaled by only the United States, China and the European Union.

Almost every business procedure that the Japanese are familiar for is as a supervene of the post-World War 2 economic reconstruction in Japan. The first root factor of the modern Japanese administration law is a sense of national identity. This is in general due to the fact that Japan is an isolated, island nation. Actually, this sense of national identity has existed since feudal times in Japan. The second factor of the modern Japanese administration law is the belief of Confucianism; while imported from China long ago, the Japanese have their own version of Confucianism, which is central to comprehension the modern Japanese administration system. Confucianism in Japan has three main aspects; loyalty, filial piety and respect for learning. Loyalty and filial piety in Japan are reflected in Japanese administration with honne and tatemae, or one's own feelings and one's collective stance, which may and often differ in the middle of each other according to the individual.

Loyalty is also seen in very large companies in Japan, where on graduating from high school or university and entering into employment with a Japanese company, one will ordinarily gain 'lifetime employment' with his or her company, thus reflecting the Confucian aspect of loyalty. In this sense, Confucianism plays a major role with Japanese administration practices.

Group orientation, or shudanshugi also plays an leading role in modern Japanese business administration practices. This is also a leading attribute in Japanese society, for example to see a group of Japanese tourists in a foreign country, one will consideration that the population in the group will all the time stay close together. This aspect of Japanese culture is of procedure also very apparent within Japanese companies, and has been deeply ingrained into Japanese community itself since the Tokugawa period. Shudanshugi can be seen with practically any collective aspect of Japan, thus it is evident with both large and small Japanese companies.

Although this desire to be part of a group may be also apparent with other countries, Japan in particular sees this group mentality as natural, not an surface phenomenon as it may be seen with other cultures. Private accountability is not leading in Japan, as it is in the West. Instead, groups are given the responsibilites. This is someone else example of the group-orientated ethics of Japan and the Japanese workforce.

There are also two types of attitudes towards authority in Japan: kengen and ken'i, or simply, formal authority and personal influence. As such, Japanese companies both small and very large tend to be run on ken'i, personal influence, which is distinct from a general Western perspective, where emphasis is ordinarily settled on delegated authority.

The fourth leading aspect of Japanese business culture is based on regional competition, something that has existed in Japan since feudal times. This is not so much an artificial construction of modern Japan, but something that has been rooted in Japanese culture for a long time. For one example, the competition in the middle of firms in Japan in the kantou and kansai regions in modern times reflects the regional competition in the middle of these same areas as far back as the beginnings of the Tokugawa period. This cultural aspect of modern Japan is probably reflected more visibly in the business administration systems more often with very large companies, than smaller companies in Japan.

There are two basic forms of promulgation in Japanese society, which can be seen in the business culture of Japan. On refers to a debt that is not able to be repaid, for example one's debt to their parents or the debt incurred from salvage another's life. While it cannot be repaid, one will try to repay it. This type of promulgation is also apparent with entering into lifetime employment with a very large Japanese company, and is tied in with the Confucian belief of loyalty. The second form of obligation, giri, is incurred from receiving a favour, such as leasing an apartment to a tenant.

Along with the aforementioned aspects of Japanese culture, there are many more aspects gift with Japanese culture, and along with it the Japanese administration systems of both small and very large companies. In easy terms, Japanese business administration styles are a by-product of the Japanese national culture, as such, each type of administration law is not much far reMoved from the other. In fact, we see such cultural aspects in practically any facet of community in Japan.

It is immediately apparent that culture influences business practices and in supervene business administration systems. Whole theses have been written colse to this idea. One such example is Kahn's 'Confucian Economic System', used to review Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Korea's cultural links to business practices. Kahn describes the features of these 'neo-Confucian' economies to be associated to a amount of factors, together with sobriety, a high value for education, a desire to succeed, seriousness about life and a hard-working ethic. Along with a culturally ingrained, Confucian sense of loyalty, there is also a sense of harmony in the Japanese workplace, as there are with the group-oriented mindset of Japanese society. This is evidenced by strike-free workplaces in modern Japan, thus placing an emphasis on co-operation and mutual obligation, rather than equality.

The cultural values, relations and structure of modern Japan clearly work on how Japanese community operates, and this is also the case with modern Japanese business administration systems in both very large and smaller Japanese companies, as has been proven in this essay. Japan is a very unique country, in that its culture does not thoroughly resemble that of any other one nation, although Japan has borrowed much from other countries to produce its own national identity.

It is apparent that Confucianism plays an leading role in Japanese culture and in supervene its society, business practices and so on. What has been covered in this essay is only a brief discern of the complicated and detailed Japanese business administration world, together with such cultural aspects as group orientation, authority, regional competition, obligations, and overall, the Confucian-based business culture of Japan, which in itself has many leading aspects which are used in Japanese collective practices and business administration systems alike.

The fancy why the prevailing image of Japanese administration systems in very large companies and small companies is very similar, if not the same, is because the Japanese economy, and with it the business structure of virtually any kind of business or large business in Japan is directly influenced by Japanese cultural values, relations and structure, in particular, those of Confucian origin.

Many scholars have argued about the fancy why Japan has come to be so thriving in the late 20th century, in an exertion to review the Japanese 'Economic Miracle'. The first discussion that is ordinarily presented is that Japan's new economic success is as a supervene of her culture and tradition. While it has not been proven beyond doubt that this is the only fancy behind the 'Economic Miracle', it is as a matter of fact a compelling discussion and clearly demonstrates the superior work on that culture has over the structure of a national community such as Japan.

Does Religion Cause War? Part One

Does Religion Cause War? Part One

One often hears the lazy argument that "Religion" is responsible for Man's wars, the assumption being that if we got rid of religion all would be peace and harmony. Presumably then, if all men abandoned the conception that they are spirits inhabiting a material body and conceived of themselves as mere animals fashioned by opening from mud our troubles would be over and we'd all be a lot happier. This is of policy untrue and does not correspond with an consideration of history, nor of gift reality.

It also displays a degree of fogginess about what one means by the word "religion" Religions vary considerably. There are pantheisms (the belief in many gods) monotheisms (the belief in one God who created all) and religions that worship no gods at all, such as Buddhism or modern Scientology.

At the far end of the spectrum there are even religions that do not conceive man to be an immortal soul even while life is determined to be nevertheless spiritual in essence.

Some religions such as Christianity stress faith, while faith has no place at all in others -Scientology and Buddhism being cases in point.

One should note too, while one is discussing paradigms based on Faith, that materialism remains unable to yield conclusive evidence for its basic assumption. That spirituality does not exist is a matter of belief, not evidence. One can of policy yield evidence that the material universe exists and one can originate and prove its laws but this is not proof that that the material universe is all there is. The assertion that the material universe is all there is is neither scientific nor logical and is categorically a statement of faith.

Alright, so this vague undefined variable known as "religion" or "faith" is responsible for Man's wars. Is it true?

Well, I can think of a few up-to-date conflicts or humanitarian cataclysms whose driving force was anyone but religious.

Hitler's massacre of ethnic minorities, for instance: religions were often the victim of Nazi psychosis but they were not responsible for it. In fact it is now a matter of narrative that the drive behind Nazi mass slaughter came from German Psychiatry, the arch-champion of the man-is-mud hypothesis.

The drive behind the Russian revolution and the Stalinist slaughter that followed it was anyone but religious, deriving again from the materialism of communism and psychiatry.

Ditto the civil war and ethnic cleansing in Yugoslavia. Ditto the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, with materialistic psychiatry the incommunicable motivator again.

The Chinese invasion of Korea in1950 and the Korean War that followed also had petite or nothing to do with religious issues. One had materialistic communist China on the one hand and the largely atheistic industrial imperialism of western nations on the other.

The Us invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq were commerce-driven regardless of what justifications are concocted for it, while in the war in Vietnam religion figured neither in the motivation nor rhetoric of whether side.

Not all war therefore is "caused" by "religion." Religious groups are however often the victim or target of it but not exclusively and not always. There is no evidence that by "getting rid of religion" one would "get rid of war" any more than there is evidence that by outlawing atheism or abandoning manufactures there would be peace on Earth.

Nor is there any evidence that an abandonment of spirituality would make community happier. On the contrary, our western community has become unhappier and more demoralized as it has become materialistic. You will probably find that the epidemic spread of drug abuse and crime on the one hand and the decline in man's spirituality and even his sense of right and wrong consequent commensurate curves. In the midst of material abundance, which theoretically should have made Man happier, we live out our days in an increasingly miserable Gomorrah of lost souls.

Of policy "religion" is a factor in the war in the Middle East and in justifications for their crimes asserted by terrorist groups. And religion has been a factor in many a human conflict. It is true too that religious societies have not necessarily been happy ones either.

In fact, a look at human history tells one that whether spiritual in outlook or materialistic in outlook, Man tends to have a hard time. From this one can desist that humanity is still evolving its public forms and does not yet have all the answers. This is no conjecture to get apathetic about the whole thing and to abandon the endeavor to conjecture in favour of generalized, unworkable slogans. Indeed, we have every incentive to go on trying to get better at these things called community and civilization, if only straight through a sense of responsibility to our children who will inherit anyone dog's morning meal we bequeath them.

Part of getting better at managing human affairs is dropping the habit of buying into broad, untrue, generalities such as "religion is the cause of war" or some such nonsense, looking it over more determined and looking if we can get a bit closer to the truth, a bit more correct about what exactly is getting us into trouble.

Perhaps, if we do, we might grow up a bit and as a species begin carrying ourselves with more dignity and less floundering slapstick and we might perchance knock off the habit of following every psycho who seeks to persuade us to burn the skin off the children of citizen we have never met.

I will continue this endeavor to apply conjecture to the matter of religion and war in the next essay in this series.

Expat Life in Sri Lanka, Colombo

Expat Life in Sri Lanka, Colombo

I recently visited the splendid island of Sri Lanka, and found a country full of surprises.

Sri Lanka is situated just south of India, in the Indian Ocean. Once known as the Dominium of Ceylon and often referred to as the tea country, tea plantations abundantly thrive across the island, with spice gardens, banana and coconut palms growing randomly to create a jungle of natural resources.

People, animals and transport seem to co-exist side by side with no animosity towards each other. Dogs wonder aimlessly across or bask in the sun at the side of roads, cows and goats roam nearby everywhere, even on the beaches (which I found rather amusing) and citizen are everywhere, whether walking, cycling, using a tuc-tuc, motorcycle with 5 astride, in a taxi, bus, car or truck, each takes up a space of the not too wide road. But co-exist they do, there is no anger at being stuck behind a truck, merely a short hooting of the horn to say I am here and would like to pass, politeness abounds and the expression and sounds are all of friendliness, within a country that sorely needs help at redeveloping itself since the tsunami. citizen are poor and yet happiness is everywhere.... Not just for the child on the hip or the man at their side, but for expats and tourists as well.

Tourists fluctuate towards the resorts and some opportunity the areas sLightly covering of these areas, to contact a quieter less harassed holiday. Small pockets of expats can be found, dotted all over the country. When you bump into these citizen and chat about life on the island, there is not much to complain about. Yes, sometimes the water gets turned off or the electricity, yes the internet is not as fast as they would like it to be. Isn't that how most citizen feel in industrialized countries anyway: The faster it gets the faster we want it. In this microscopic piece of paradise, expats are not too implicated that it takes a microscopic longer to do things here, the citizen are prepared to wait, not too hasty to Move forward too quickly. There was a lot of talk and concern about the elections and protection within the country and there are still road blockades and police / army personnel with guns wandering nearby retention peace if necessary. However, with 70% of the citizen being Buddhists, the lifestyle is peaceful and life simplistic.

From an expat perspective, I could not fault the lifestyle. As said above, yes there are exact things missing, things are slower, it takes a good 4 - 6 hours to get from Colombo to Galle and similarly to everywhere about 200km's apart. I cannot say that the roads are particularly in good condition, but in the 10 days that I visited, I did not see one accident. Hardships could consist of the lack of being able to get from one part of the island to other quickly, the lack of fast internet connection, possibly the human waste / refuse, which allows for the influx of flies, the dirt which is left to lie nearby and lastly the lack of funds to rebuild the country to what it was before the Tsunami.

Having said that, I have to look at all the good things that you find there, the beauty of the natural resources, how the nationals and expats are trying to rebuild the country, the beaches, game parks and mountains. This is truly a beautiful part of the world.

The science of mind of Success in Iit Jee - Excerpts

The science of mind of Success in Iit Jee - Excerpts

Over 99% of the habitancy i interviewed for this book said that they were sure that they would make it to Iit. "Determination" brings all other factors come together. Ask yourself, "Am I undoubtedly considered to get a rank in Iit-Jee?" If your rejoinder is "Yes", next ask "Are my actions consistent with my determination?" If the rejoinder is "No" then ask again "What can I do to make my activity align with my Determination". Go on playing this game with yourself till you have all the answers.

However, besides determination, Motivation is the turbo-engine that keeps determination high and successful habitancy use constantly to faultless their arduous journey.

The Meaning of "Motivation"

Motivation provides ammunition to keep your determination high so that your goal always remains in sight. Achievers don't let themselves forget their motivators. They keep tossing and turning motivators in their heads.

What Motivates you?

Do you know what motivates you? What is the "One" guiding factor in your life that drives you on? Find it out. It can be anything - Studies, The lure of Extra-Curricular Activities at Iit, The Iit Brand - Anything. Iit promises all round development.

So, if sports are what drive you, then believe me, you will have ample opportunities to play games at any of the Iits with as much contentious spirit as everywhere else. Iit campuses have some of the Finest sports facilities and these cater all fields - Soccer, Hockey, Cricket - Everything.

For non-sport fans there is plethora of other activities. Students ensue many interests varying from Astronomy to Animation. Some of the Clubs are:

1) English Debating & Literary Club (Edlc) organised a variety of events like extempore, debates, dumb charates, Jam etc.

2) Hindi Samiti: Oraganised Hindi Language associated events varying from recitation to plays to songs.

3) Dance & Dramatics Club: Organised plays in Hindi &: English along with varied fance events.

4) Music Club: Organised Western and Eastern nights, musical skits, Classical & instrumental concerts etc. Iit - B holds the Asia's Largest yearly Cultural Fest Mood Indigo. (I (Samik) tell you, this thing drove me to put in order for Jee because I want to form a Hard Rock Band.

5) Photo & Audio visual community (Pads): Organised teaching workshops on Photography etc.

6) Film Series Committee: Screened movies at Iit campus.

7) Indoor Sports Club: Organised card games, carrom, Table Tennis, Billiards & pool etc.

Staying Away From De-Motivators.

(Hey Dumbo! You could not even solve this easy problem?). Now this is the commonest refrain friends use to pull down friends. You will also come to hear "i attempted 11 out of 12 question, what did you do? When you undoubtedly knew there was time to exertion just 7!

Here it is very foremost to understand that distinct habitancy use distinct prisms to understand life's complexities. A reality can be distinct for distinct people. There are habitancy who over-estimate everything, they will go on feeding lie after lie. Then there are the "Nay-Sayers" who underestimate everything.

Therefore, a easy antidote from these De-motivators is to stay away from them. Don't let stray sarcastic comments run down your enthusiasm . There may be students who are smarter than you and can ensue faster than you - Don'T Forget You Have Your Own Gifts. There are over 6000 seats to compete for. Its Ok if you are not the Best. Thats the way most of us are anyway. You can still give your best and assume that best will come to you.

How to format your Pc

The first step in the process to format your Pc is to backup your files and data if at all possible. I propose that you all the time have your files backed up already and this will save you a lot of hassle if whatever goes wrong.

The next thing we are going to do is place the Windows disc into the Cd drive and start the computer. Hopefully the disc will start automatically. If the Windows disc does not start then you will need to enter your Bios to convert boot options to make your computer boot to the Cd first.

Here are the steps to format your Pc:

If you have had big problems with your computer then I propose you choose a slow long format. When using Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will not be asked if you want Fat32 or Ntfs.

8. You are now on your way to formatting your Pc.

How does formatting your Pc clean your computer?

When you format your computer every inexpressive file, saved file, emails and contacts, and positively all is cleared from your computer. Formatting your computer is the ultimate computer cleaning. There is just no other way to get your computer clean like reinstalling Windows.

Livigno Italy Is The Place To Ski Duty Free

Livigno Italy Is The Place To Ski Duty Free

France, Austria and Switzerland are some of the most preponderant ski resorts for British skiers and snowboarders. But these traditional favourites are now also some of the most expensive places to get your snow fix. It's not uncommon to pay 7 Euros or more for an après ski beer in ski bars in Val D'isere or Kitzbuhel - and cheap accommodation can also be hard to find.

Many skiers are finding to Eastern Europe for a cheaper ski trip, but while there are nothing else but bargains to be found in the Balkans, the resorts tend be less industrialized than in Western Europe and offer less full, terrain. So what does the cash strapped skier do?

The write back lies in the not-so-well-known ski resort of Livingo, Italy. Set in the Italian Alps at 1816 m above sea level, Livigno offers full, skiing without breaking the bank. With 33 lifts and 110km of skiing, the area attracts all levels of snow sports fans. The wide open runs are exquisite for beginners to learn and intermediates to progress, and the terrain park and easy back country entrance will even keep more industrialized skiers and snowboarders happy for a week or more.

The town has avoided the rapid construction boom of imposing concrete high rise hotels that has bLighted some of the more preponderant ski resorts in Western Europe. Instead, Livigno remains a town with plenty of rustic charm; the traditional wooden chalets and small rural structure are easy on the eye and add to the natural charm of the surrounds.

But the best thing about Livigno is the price, due to its duty free status which was introduced by the Austro-Hungarian Empire about 160 years ago. It's thought that Livigno's remote nature, which was fully cut off from the rest of the country during the harsh winters, was largely the presuppose it was made into a tax free haven. And even nowadays, only three roads associate the town with other areas - though improvements in construction technology and snow clearance mean that entrance is no longer a problem.

Perhaps the only downside to Livigno is its small inaccessibility from major airports. It's nearby a three hour drive from Bergamo or Innsbruck, but with quarterly buses to the resort or cheap car hire in Italy effortlessly available, getting to Livigno isn't difficult.

So, with plenty of terrain, nothing else but accessible off piste, a warm Italian reception and prices far cheaper than other resorts in Western Europe, Livigno is one exquisite Italian job.
