Internal Hard Drive Interfaces

Review

In the world of consumer-based internal hard drives there are two former ways in which the hard drive interfaces with the motherboard. The older technology is Integrated Drive Electronics or Ide. Three clubs were initially responsible for creating the Ide technology. These clubs were Western Digital, operate Data Corporation, and Compaq Computer. Western Digital and operate Data Corporation produced the hard drives that went into Compaq Pcs. The mission of this corporate cooperation was to create a new connector and new signaling protocols while maintaining backward software compatibility with the existing standards or Pata the time. The first drives based on the Ide technology first appeared in Compaq computers beginning in 1986. The Ide thorough would come to be the dominant thorough for approximately the next 20 years.

The new thorough is known as serial Ata or Sata. This new storehouse interface was created in 2003. However, it wasn't until 2007 that serial Ata began to replace Ide as the notable interface technology. By this time Ide was renamed to parallel Ata or Pata. The new storehouse interface offered numerous improvements over the older standard. For example, the serial Ata connector was a straightforward seven pin connector which was much easier to use compared to the older 40 pin connector. In addition, the easier-to-use connecting cable allowed for significantly faster data replacement speeds.

Another leading benefit that serial Ata had over parallel Ata was reserve for hot plugging. Hot plugging allows a user to attach a expedient without first shutting down the operating system. However, any serial Ata expedient that runs with backward compatibility features enabled cannot be hot plugged. In addition, the operating principles must reserve pluggable devices.
