Death of a hard drive can be very heartening at times. You can lose all your pictures, music and documents that way. As long as the files are not corrupted on your drive, they can be safely recovered. There are no guarantees that you will all the time salvage each and all from the broken drive.

1. Before you open the computer case, remember to unplug the computer from main Power Supply. Take off other electrical appliances if they are located close to the Cpu cabinet.

2. Rubbing your hands against the metal can save your drive from possible static electricity flow. Select a cabinet paneling that is easiest to open. You should also think the side of cabinet that is suitable for detaching the hard drive.

3. You will have to use extra screw drivers to open the small screws that attach the drive to your computer.

4. Disconnect Ide and Power cables related to your hard drive. Thick sized cable is Ide and it carries data and operate signals to and from the central processing unit. Place the hard drive on an insulated surface. There should be no electric or magnetic charge.

5. Carefully look along the Ide cable related to your hard drive and find the unused connector. Slowly plug your drive into the unused connector. These unused connectors are similar to Power connectors of a computer that is no longer in use. Use a Book or something else to mount the hard disk. Don't let your hard disk hang down from the motherboard with cables.

6. Remove jumper from the drive. Now your drive will work as a 'slave.'

7. Start your computer with other drive in the master slot. You will see the new hard drive in my computer. Wholly scan the drive before you copy your data.
